Snapshot of Oakland History

Mark Twain and Trestle Glen was originally named after a railroad trestle that ran along Trestle Glen Creek. Early settlers had called it Indian Gulch, referring to the old Huchiun village that was located near the present-day intersection of Lakeshore and Trestle Glen Road.

Built in 1893, the line was dismantled in 1906 to make way for a new streetcar. Local historians still celebrate the fact that Mark Twain was a passenger on the maiden voyage.
