Considering buying real estate in Oakland’s Temescal area? This is one of Oakland’s oldest neighborhoods- until 1897 Temescal was its own separate village. Today, Temescal is teeming with award-wining restaurants and is celebrated as a centralized, hip and vibrant area.
Temescal Location
Temescal is anchored around the intersection of Telegraph Ave and 51st Street in Oakland. Its boundaries run down to about 40th Street, with Broadway as the eastern border.
The Neighborhood Feel of Temescal
Many top level restaurants have established themselves in the Temescal neighborhood. In addition to several decades-old neighborhood favorites, you’ll now find foodies celebrating the presence of Doña Tomas, Pizzaolo, Barlatta, Ginova Deli, Bakesale Betty’s and Lanesplitters Pizza. Living in Temescal is somewhat like living in San Francisco: you can easily walk to shops or be taken to any other urban center by the nearby Macarthur BART.
Home Prices in Temescal
In the Temescal neighborhood, you’ll occasionally see a grand Victorian mansion that, back in the late 1800’s, was likely the “Queen of the neighborhood”. Today, most of the homes for sale are the smaller Craftsman and California Bungalows. Near 41st Street, in lower Temescal, you’ll also find a small inventory of mixed-use buildings, condos and apartments. Homes for sale in Temescal range from the $500’s to the $800’s
