LOCATION:
Lakeshore Avenue runs along the East side of Lake Merritt.  Grand Avenue runs along the north side of the Lake.   The streets near one another just above highway 580 and that’s where the neighborhoods typically referred to as Lakeshore and Grand begin.  Lake Merritt itself offers a pleasant oasis right in the center of the City of Oakland.  On any given day you will see neighborhood residents walking their dogs, jogging or just taking a break along the shoreline.  The recently renovated Lake Chalet Boat House is a great stop on warm evenings to grab a bite or have a drink.  There is even a gondola offering romantic boat rides under the moon light.

TYPES OF PROPERTIES:
Homes and real estate for sale in Upper Lakeshore and Grand Ave come in a wide array of styles, prices and sizes.  The communities primarily consist of single family homes built in the 1920’s and 30’s.  The area is moderately hilly and in most cases easily walk able to the shopping districts.  Upper Lakeshore borders the upscale neighborhoods Crocker Highlands and Trestle Glen as well as the city of Piedmont.  Upper Grand Avenue is more densely populated and has a slightly busier feel to it.  There are lots of single family homes but also apartment to condo conversions as well as large condo buildings and  apartments.  A small section of Grand Ave. enters the city of Piedmont and the home values jump accordingly at the city line.

Both Lakeshore and Grand offer shopping, restaurants, coffee houses and the wonderfully popular art deco movie house the Grand Lake Theater.  There are casual eateries as well as more upscale restaurants.  One of the more popular weekend activities is the Grand Ave farmers market. This is a year round open air farmers market takes place every Saturday.  It offers a friendly shopping environment for fresh flowers, organic produce straight from the farm, arts & crafts as well as a host of community information.  There are also plenty of fun activities for people of all ages.
